- Current S-tier consensus (as of the most recently updated source we checked, July 2026): Vito Coppola, Tatiana Valieva and Smith. The first two have held S-tier in every list we found going back to late 2023.
- Best beginner faction: Human Resistance, commonly cited for having the highest density of obtainable A-Rank heroes for a new account.
- Watch for stale claims: Xianglong Wang, Anna Mahoney and Ahmed Samir show up as strong picks in older posts. In the tier lists we cross-checked, none of them is S-tier today, and Ahmed Samir has fallen all the way to C-tier.

This article is that follow-up: a cross-check of the current public tier lists and guide consensus, done properly, with sources and dates attached to every claim.
What this article is not: a combat-tested ranking from a SetupLevel roster. We haven't built one. What follows is us reading the available guides carefully, checking them against each other, throwing out anything that doesn't hold up, and telling you plainly where the remaining uncertainty is.
Star Ascension beats rarity — read this before the tier list
The single most useful piece of advice in Project Entropy's hero system has nothing to do with S-tier versus A-tier. A fully Star-Ascended A-Rank hero commonly outperforms a base, 1-Star S-Rank hero, according to PerfCore's beginner progression guide (published August 17, 2026). That guide states it plainly: don't chase rarity, chase star level.
That changes how you should read every tier list below, including this one. A raw S/A/B rarity ranking assumes every hero is maxed out, which is never true for a free or low-spend account early on. In practice:
- A 5-star (fully ascended) A-Rank hero you've invested duplicate shards into will usually beat a 1-star S-Rank hero you just pulled and haven't touched.
- Spending pulls chasing S-Rank rarity, then leaving those heroes at base star level, is one of the more common ways free players waste resources early on.
- The efficient path for most accounts is picking a smaller roster of obtainable heroes and pushing their Star Ascension level, not maximizing rarity.
The same guide also notes a sub-faction bonus worth planning around: fielding three heroes from the same sub-faction (Human Resistance, Cybernetic Syndicate or Alien Hybrids) activates a passive +15% Attack and +15% HP across every troop unit in that formation — described as the single highest passive stat gain available to free players. That's a reason to build around faction fit, not just individual hero tier, from day one.
Current tier list: S, A and B tier heroes
The most recently updated public tier list we found is Mobi.gg's Project Entropy tier list, timestamped as updated July 28, 2026. We treat that as the current baseline and cross-reference it against BlueStacks' heroes tier list (published January 22, 2024) and LDPlayer's tier list guide (dated September 30, 2023) to show which placements are stable and which have moved.

B-tier in the current list is a mix of names that don't appear in the older lists at all (Lindsay, Pereira, Simone, Billy, Iris, Elena, Marchioli) plus two notable fallers: Summer and Kevin Edwards, both A-tier in 2023-2024, both demoted to B-tier by mid-2026. C-tier — the list's floor as of July 2026 — includes Lorraine, Jessica, Xianglong Wang, Ahmed Samir, Marcus Barclay, Tonya, Anna Mahoney and Maya. We're not building a full table for C-tier; if a hero is there, the guides agree it's not worth your ascension materials right now.
The stale S-tier claims you'll still see floating around
You may run into older posts, forum threads or AI-generated summaries citing Xianglong Wang, Anna Mahoney or Ahmed Samir as top-tier picks. We checked this specifically before writing this piece, because it's exactly the kind of outdated claim that gets copy-pasted forward long after it stops being true.
Here's what we actually found across the three tier lists: none of the three has ever been ranked S-tier in the guides we could locate, at any point. Xianglong Wang and Anna Mahoney sat at B-tier in both the 2023 and 2024 sources, then fell to C-tier — the bottom of the list — by the July 2026 update. Ahmed Samir is the more dramatic case: S-tier in both the 2023 and 2024 lists, then C-tier by mid-2026, the single biggest fall of any named hero we tracked across the three sources.
The takeaway isn't "these heroes are bad forever." It's that Project Entropy gets balance patches and new hero releases, and any tier list — including this one — is a snapshot of a specific patch state. Anyone citing a hero's tier without a date attached is asking you to trust a number that may already be wrong.
Best beginner faction: Human Resistance
Human Resistance is the faction most consistently recommended for new accounts, credited by PerfCore's guide with having the highest density of obtainable A-Rank heroes in the standard summon pool. That matters more than it sounds: it means a beginner can build a competent, synergized early roster off standard pulls, without needing the luck of an S-Rank hit.
Combine that with the sub-faction bonus above — three Human Resistance heroes in one formation adds a flat +15% Attack and +15% HP to every troop unit attached — and the practical beginner path looks like this: pick up Human Resistance A-Rank heroes as they come, push their Star Ascension level with duplicates and materials before chasing new pulls, and don't feel behind for not having an S-Rank roster in the first month.
How we built this list
This is aggregation, and we want to be specific about what that means rather than let the word do the work. We read and cross-referenced three named, dated public sources:
- Mobi.gg's Project Entropy tier list — updated July 28, 2026, the most current S/A/B/C ranking we found.
- BlueStacks' heroes tier list — published January 22, 2024, useful for hero rarity/type detail on legacy heroes and as a mid-point comparison.
- LDPlayer's tier list guide — dated September 30, 2023, the oldest source we used, mainly to confirm which S-tier placements (Coppola, Valieva) have been stable the longest.
- PerfCore's beginner progression guide — published August 17, 2026, our source for the Star Ascension-over-rarity finding, the Human Resistance recommendation, and the sub-faction bonus figure.
Where the three tier lists disagreed, we reported the disagreement and the direction of movement rather than picking a winner. Where a hero appeared in the current list with no rarity or type data published anywhere we could find (Smith, James Belfort, Dussolier, Leila, Flora), we said so instead of guessing. We did not invent a single hero name, rarity or stat for this piece.
Why this isn't methodology like our hardware reviews
SetupLevel's GPU and CPU reviews are built off our own bench: a fixed rig, documented driver and BIOS versions, three or more runs per setting, medians and 1% lows reported with the spread. None of that applies here, and pretending it did would be dishonest about what we actually did.
There's no bench for hero combat math the way there's a bench for frame rates — no controlled way to isolate one hero's contribution without a leveled account and enough repeated fights to separate matchup variance from raw power. We don't have that yet. What we have is careful reading, source dating and cross-referencing — a legitimate but different kind of rigor than a hardware bench.
The honest next step, if we take it, is building an account from zero, pushing a small roster to real Star Ascension levels, and checking whether the PerfCore claim and the current Mobi.gg placements hold up against actual progression. That would show up as a dated update to this page, not a new article — no separate hero-testing piece is planned beyond this one.
Verdict: use this as a starting point, not a shopping list
Vito Coppola and Tatiana Valieva are the safest S-tier bets — both have held that spot across every source we checked spanning late 2023 through mid-2026. Everything else on this list, including the newer names like Smith, James Belfort, Dussolier, Leila and Flora, carries more uncertainty because the public data on them is thinner and none of it is our own.
Act on this if: you're deciding which of two heroes to invest ascension materials in and want a directionally sound answer today.
Don't act on this if: you're about to spend real money chasing a specific S-Rank pull based on rarity alone — the Star Ascension finding above says that's usually the wrong move regardless of which name is on the S-tier list.
What would change our answer: our own account reaching a real Star Ascension level on a comparison roster. Until then, treat every hero placement here as guide consensus, dated and sourced, not a tested result.
